Who dares to develop a Doctor Doom film for Fox? FARGO and LEGION's Noah Hawley, that's who!
At the end of Thursday's LEGION panel, during Sand Diego Comic Con, Hawley closed the show with one hell of a tease when he said, “I’ll just say two words. The first one is Doctor and the next one is Doom.” Naturally, the crowd erupted with excitement at the prospect of Hawley being at the helm of a film which is set to revolve around Marvel's scarred, mad scientist of many magics.
For those of you keeping count at home, this will be the third time that the genius magician, benevolent ruler of Latveria, and constant thorn in the Fantastic Four's side will appear on the big screen for Fox. Naturally, Hawley is going to have his work cut out for him if wants audience members to take the villainous character seriously. What? Don't look at me like that, you know damn well that the majority of Fantastic Four fans rolled their eyes at Julian McMahon's portrayal of Doom in Tim Story's 2005 effort. Oh, and then there was Toby Kebbell's turn as Victor, which … yeah.
Personally, I'm super excited about the prospect of Hawley taking on the character. After all, Hawley has already proven that he can take even one of the most bizarre and psychedelic comic book characters, David Haller, and build a roller coaster of show around him. With that in mind, there's no reason to think that he can't do the same for Doom.
I'll be watching the progress on this project very closely, as will all of us here in the news editing bullpen, I'm sure.
What do you think of the idea of Noah Hawley bringing the disfigured fiend to the big screen? Do you think the Fantastic Four will be mentioned or involved in some capacity? Let us know in the comments section below!
