The first trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore has been unveiled by Warner Bros. and it gives us a real look at Mads Mikkelsen as the new Gellert Grindelwald.
The film takes place several years after the events of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and it has beloved wizard Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) tasking Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his allies with the mission of taking on Gellert Grindelwald’s (Mads Mikkelsen) army.
Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling and longtime series screenwriter Steve Kloves penned the script, based upon a screenplay by Rowling. Directed by David Yates, this will be the third film in a planned series of five Harry Potter prequels. The third installment stars Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, and Mads Mikkelsen as the central villain, Gellert Grindelwald. Johnny Depp previously played the role but he was replaced by Mikkelsen following Depp’s very public issues with his ex-wife Amber Heard.
The film’s release has jumped around a bit, with filming beginning in early 2020 but having to halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film follows the events of the second film, which was met with lukewarm reception and ended its box office run as the lowest-grossing entry in the series with $654 million worldwide.
