The company Cinestate is on a quest revive the Fangoria brand, not only bringing back the magazine but also producing and releasing films under the Fangoria banner. The new Fangoria's debut film was the recently released PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH, and they have more in the works. Their latest project is an "all-female adaptation of the Frankenstein myth" called AFTER BIRTH.
Laura Moss will be making her feature directorial debut on AFTER BIRTH, working from a screenplay she wrote with Brendan O'Brien. The script tells the story of
a morgue technician who successfully reanimates the body of a little girl, but to keep the child breathing, she will need to harvest biological materials from pregnant women. When the girl’s mother, a nurse, discovers her baby alive, the two women enter into a deal that forces them both down a dark path of no return.
The idea of a Frankenstein baby is already very unnerving, so I'm reluctant to hear what sort of "biological materials" need to be harvested from pregnant women. Especially after seeing how far Fangoria was willing to go with THE LITTLEST REICH.
Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk will be producing AFTER BIRTH for Fangoria and Cinestate, alongside Mali Elfman. Fangoria's Phil Nobile Jr. and Clay Neigher serve as executive producers.
