At this point in the current musicals gold rush I’d rather see a well made revamp of Alan Parker’s perfect-as-it-is FAME than yet another HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL or any of its knock offs. Those movies are like bad neighbors; you let one move on your block, next thing you know the whole town goes to hell.
The folks from Collider posted a bunch of clips extracted from the movie, all edited into one sitting, and although I usually loathe musicals this one looks like they’ve kept to Parker’s original vision. I like the fact that they cast complete unknowns as the students instead of the tween heartthrobs du jour, supported them with great vets for teachers (Kelsey Grammer, Bebe Neuwirth , Charles S. Dutton, Debbie Allen) and put it in the hands of a first-timer to direct. Someone who has no idea what they’re doing tend to be more imaginative and creative, at least according to my first girlfriend.
The film opens September 25th, and that clippage thing is right down below.
