Fallout series moving forward at Amazon with Jonathan Nolan directing premiere

Amazon Studios announced that they were developing a TV series based on Bethesda’s Fallout videogame series back in 2020 and it seems that the project is finally moving forward. Deadline has reported that production on the Fallout series is set to kick off production later this year with Jonathan Nolan (Westworld) set to direct the series premiere.

Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy began developing the Fallout series for Amazon nearly two years ago. “Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time,” said Nolan and Joy at the time. “Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.” Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Graham Wagner (Silicon Valley) have also boarded the Fallout series as showrunners. Although Jonathan Nolan doesn’t take on directing duties all that often, he has directed an episode of Person of Interest as well as multiple episodes of Westworld.

Fallout is a post-apocalyptic role-playing videogame series heavily influenced by 1950s post-war culture. Much of the franchise takes place hundreds of years after a great war over resources decimated the planet. The U.S. government set up a series of self-sufficient fallout shelters known as Vaults, but there wasn’t enough room for everyone and those who survived the nuclear fallout have become horribly mutated. Despite the grim tone, there’s also plenty of moments of humor to be found in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. As far as Westworld goes, HBO renewed the series for a fourth season which is expected to debut later this year.
