Fair Game: Australian thriller that inspired Death Proof coming to North America

This was a cool press release to see show up in our inbox: Dark Star Pictures is bringing the 1986 Ozploitation thriller Fair Game to screens in North America this month! The film will be playing in L.A. theatres starting on July 8th, and that will be followed by a digital release on July 12th. A physical release is being planned for August.

Said to be a source of inspiration for Quentin Tarantino‘s Grindhouse movie Death Proof, Fair Game is “a wild revenge thriller” set in the Outback. Cassandra Delaney (One Night Stand) stars as a wildlife sanctuary boss who goes up against

three psycho kangaroo hunters. Bored with killing kangaroos, they decide to kill the animals in the sanctuary, and when they see how attractive the owner is, they decide to have a little “fun” with her, too. Turns out that they may get a bit more “fun” than they bargained for.

Delaney is joined in the cast by Peter Ford (Gallipoli), David Sandford (The Cowra Breakout), Garry Who (Dead End Drive-In), Don Barker (Rabbit-Proof Fence), Carmel Young (Fever), Adrian Shirley (The Time Guardian), and Wayne Anthony (Gunsmoke: One Man’s Justice).

Fair Game was directed by Mario Andreacchio (Paradise Found) from a screenplay by The Battle for Jericho writer/director Rob George.

I’m not sure if I had heard of Fair Game before this release announcement, but judging by the trailer at the top of this article – which comes courtesy of our friends at Bloody Disgusting – and the NSFW one at the bottom of this article, the film looks awesome to me. I’m definitely going to be checking it out sometime this month.
