It may not have hit the heights of its older sibling, but Fear the Walking Dead is still chugging along as it explores the zombie apocalypse taking place on the opposite side of the country. Although the series began by exploring the very beginnings of the zombie outbreak, Fear the Walking Dead feels as though it's moving a little too quickly to catch up with the original series. Personally, I would have enjoyed spending a little more time witnessing the collapse of society, but I suppose there's not as much room for zombie mayhem in that scenario. The third season of the AMC series is just several weeks away, and a new trailer has been released to give us a tease at what's in store for our group of survivors.
Fear the Walking Dead's co-creator Dave Erickson, who will be departing the series had the close of its third season, told THR that the "work we're doing this season is the best we've done." Erickson added that "creatively, it's an interesting place to be. We're setting things up to hand off to someone else. I'm curious to see what direction it's taken in. It's really about wrapping things up and servicing the core Clark family story and coming up with some sort of transition, which feels like we're getting a degree of closure but also opening up a new door."
The official synopsis for Fear The Walking Dead's third season:
As Fear the Walking Dead returns for season three, our families will be brought together in the vibrant and violent ecotone of the U.S.-Mexico border. International lines done away with following the world’s end, our characters must attempt to rebuild not only society, but family as well. Madison (Kim Dickens) has reconnected with Travis (Cliff Curtis), her apocalyptic partner, but Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) has been fractured by her murder of Andres. Madison's son mere miles from his mother, Nick’s (Frank Dillane) first action as a leader saw Luciana (Danay Garcia) ambushed by an American militia group — the couple escaped death, but Nick no longer feels immortal. Recovering both emotionally and physically, Strand (Colman Domingo) has his sights set on harnessing the new world’s currency, and Ofelia's (Mercedes Mason) captivity will test her ability to survive and see if she can muster the savagery of her father.
Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC on June 4, 2017.
