F13th Has Writers

It’s time to get your machetes and hockey masks and return to Crystal Lake folks! The long awaited and thought to be dead new FRIDAY THE 13TH film, being produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, has just been given new life.

A reliable tipster phoned in this evening (and this source is 100% solid gold, baby) to tell us Dunes is putting their proposed Friday the 13th on the pre-strike roster with the aim to begin shooting sometime in early 2008. The Dunes team, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, we’ve been told, have also officially locked a new pair of writers to tackle the property…Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

If you know your F13 films, then you should know that Mr. Shannon and Mr. Swift penned 2003’s FREDDY VS. JASON, and that film kicked all sorts of ass. With all the trouble that Dunes has had trying to get the film made, it’s great to know that the hockey mask wearing, powering force, Jason Voorhees will be slashing our screens soon enough. Director Jonathan Liebesman (DARKNESS FALLS, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING) was once attached to helm this potential sequel/prequel, but no word has confirmed that he still is or not.

I’d personally like to see someone else direct the film rather than Liebesman. No offense to the guy, but I just haven’t found his feature length films good. But RINGS, the short he made to bridge THE RING and RING TWO together…well that was awesome. If you’d like to read more, click here. As things begin to start rolling, expect more on this film soon.
