Ezra Miller did own stunts for The Flash

Following The Flash’s world premiere at CinemaCon just last night, the movie garnered acclaim across the board. Many have called it one of the best movies DC has put out yet–perhaps even one of the greatest superhero flicks ever–with praise leaning heavily on the visuals, storytelling, cast and action. Ezra Miller should be particularly excited about that last one, as it turns out they did their own stunts for The Flash.

Speaking at the event, which concludes on Thursday, The Flash director Andy Muschietti spoke highly of Ezra Miller, revealing that they were a pleasure to have on set, adding that they insisted on doing their own stunts. “They are an incredible actor and the chance to work with one of the best actors that I’ve ever worked with…I discovered they are an incredible comedian and also [handled] all the action required for a big spectacle like this. They wanted to do all the stunts, and I let them.”

Committing to the stunts could be a major saving grace for Ezra Miller, who has stood in the spotlight less for The Flash than for burglary, grooming a young girl and making Oscar winner Susan Sarandon pay tribute to them at an altar…which we did not have on our bingo card. Despite all of this, Warner Bros. has stood by Miller, encouraging their growth and insisting they still star as Barry Allen, which itself caused its own backlash, with allegations that the studio catered too much to Miller.

Ezra Miller joins a pretty impressive list of actors who have done their own stunts. The first name that comes to mind today is Tom Cruise, who we can’t seem to convince to just exit a plane like a normal person. Throughout modern movies, Jackie Chan, Keanu Reeves and more have insisted on doing their own stunt work, with Chan setting an unmatched precedent that has resulted in countless injuries throughout his career. Miller was not at the premiere, but we’re fairly certain it’s because they smashed their head on a rock and nearly lost their life à la Chan in Armour of God.

You can catch The Flash when it hits theaters on June 16th.
