Ezra Miller comments on why directors keep departing The Flash

In the grand scheme of things, the DCEU is still in its formative years, but they've already had a few directors jumping ship, including two directors departing THE FLASH. A week ago Rick Famuyiwa left THE FLASH behind after pitching Warner Bros. a "version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart." Unfortunately they couldn't come together creatively on the project and Famuyiwa became the second director, after Seth Grahame-Smith, in less than a year to leave the speed force behind. Ezra Miller spoke with Collider recently to comment on why these directors keep leaving.

These processes are complicated, and I think it can—from afar—appear to be, as you say, something interpersonal or dramatic. That is rarely the case. These are groups of people taking the development of projects extremely seriously, and the teams are changing all the time. There’s often a lot of flux in who the team of the production of a film is before that production starts, and in this case, you hear about it, because it’s a critical figure—the directors that have been coming on and leaving. For me, it’s sort of a tragic relay race, and we’ve had a couple really incredible people carry this baton, and their marks are left on that baton, and the work that they’ve given to the project will certainly be represented in whatever the final product comes to be.

Miller has seen "glimpses of various points in the development" of the script and is "extremely excited" about it, but unfortunately it seems that both the start of production and release date may be delayed unless Warner Bros. can locate a new director pronto. Miller seems condident that they will and that production will kick off sooner than it was expected to as he told ScreenRant that he doesn't "know right now [who the director will be], but I think we’ll start this year, I think it’s coming up pretty quick." We've seen very brief glimpses of Ezra Miller as Barry Allen in both BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and SUICIDE SQUAD, but our first major introduction to the Scarlet Speedster won't arrive until Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE on November 17, 2017.
