Extraction starred Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Endgame) as Tyler Rake, “a fearless black market mercenary who embarks on the deadliest mission of his career when he’s enlisted to rescue the kidnapped son of an international crime lord.” The hard-hitting action flick proved to be one of Netflix’s most popular films of all time, and they quickly got the ball rolling on a sequel. Well, Extraction 2 is getting ready to start shooting soon and Chris Hemsworth teased the sequel while congratulating the stunt team on their wins at the Taurus World Stunt Awards.
“Huge wins for @extractionfilm at the Taurus World Stunt Awards,” Hemsworth wrote on Instagram. “Massive thanks and congrats to the incredible stunt team for putting themselves on the line, making Extraction the massive success it continues to be. Shooting for the sequel begins soon and believe it or not it’ll be bigger and badder than the first. Stay tuned for more chaos!” I know what you’re thinking, an action sequel claiming to be bigger and badder than the first film? Absolutely unheard of! In all seriousness though, I am very excited to see how Extraction 2 will attempt to top what came before, and if anyone can do it, I’ll place my bets on Chris Hemsworth and director Sam Hargrave.
It’s also likely that Extraction 2 won’t be the last we see of this universe, as writer Joe Russo has previously teased that he’d be down to develop a whole Extraction franchise full of sequels and spinoffs. “I’m still not gonna commit because I think it’s more exciting to surprise people,” Russo said, “but I will say this: we are working at building out a universe of films that could potentially explore some of the other characters from the first movie and some new characters, and see more historical interaction between the characters. So if you’re interested in David Harbour’s character, you just may get to see him in a future Extraction movie.“
