Action is back, baby! While John Wick: Chapter 4 is blasting through the box office with a Dragon’s Breath shotgun, Chris Hemsworth also returns with his own fight and stunt spectacular with the Netflix sequel, Extraction 2. In the original, we are introduced to Tyler Rake, a mercenary who had taken on the assignment of seeking and rescuing the kidnapped son of a prisoned, international crime lord. The first Extraction featured some of the more amazing action sequences of the past few years, including an extended one-shot sequence that took place in and around an apartment building and on the streets of Bangladesh.
The synopsis reads,
Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake in EXTRACTION 2, the sequel to Netflix’s blockbuster action film EXTRACTION. After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.
Hemsworth reunites with director Sam Hargrave, with Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO producing and Joe Russo writing. Golshifteh Farahani reprises her role from the first film, with Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili also co-starring.
This is a sequel to the first film that was based on the graphic novel ‘Ciudad’ by Ande Parks, from a story by Ande Parks, Joe Russo & Anthony Russo, with illustrations by Fernando León González. EXTRACTION 2 is produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Hemsworth, Patrick Newall and Sam Hargrave, with Jake Aust, Benjamin Grayson, Steven Scavelli, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely as executive producers.
The second outing looks to feature more thrilling sequences that will leave you scratching your head, asking how they accomplished that. The majority of the teaser showcases one of the film’s action set piece highlights that involves Tyler making his way through a prison riot with his extraction in a one-take shot where the camera point-of-view seamlessly transitions from third-person handheld to a fixed position on Hemsworth and back again. As if it wasn’t badass enough, Hemsworth goes beast mode and starts fighting off opposers while on fire.
Extraction 2 will be available on Netflix on June 16.
