2023 is shaping up to be a year of action with films like John Wick: Chapter 4 and Fast X. Netflix‘s own Extraction proved to be a big hit for Chris Hemsworth outside of Marvel films, and though the first ended on somewhat of an open note regarding his character’s survival, the streamer has brought him back and is ready to give audiences the ride of their lives in the newly released posters of the sequel. Sam Hargrave returns to direct Hemsworth in more breathtakingly brutal action scenes for this year’s Extraction 2.
The official synopsis from Netflix reads,
Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake in EXTRACTION 2, the sequel to Netflix’s blockbuster action film EXTRACTION. After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.
Hemsworth reunites with director Sam Hargrave, with Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO producing and Joe Russo writing. Golshifteh Farahani reprises her role from the first film, with Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili also co-starring.
This is a sequel to the first film that was based on the graphic novel ‘Ciudad’ by Ande Parks, from a story by Ande Parks, Joe Russo & Anthony Russo, with illustrations by Fernando León González. EXTRACTION 2 is produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Hemsworth, Patrick Newall and Sam Hargrave, with Jake Aust, Benjamin Grayson, Steven Scavelli, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely as executive producers.
The new trailer for the adrenaline-fueled film is due to drop tomorrow, so stay tuned. But to whet your appetites beforehand, you can get a look at the three new posters for Extraction 2 below.
Extraction 2 stars Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani, Tornike Gogrichiani, Adam Bessa, Daniel Bernhardt, Tinatin Dalakishvili, and Olga Kurylenko. One of the standout sequences of the first was an extended one-shot sequence that took place in and around an apartment building and on the streets of Bangladesh. The recent teaser showcased a similiar scene, this time with Tyler Rake making his way through a prison riot with his extraction in a one-take shot where the camera point-of-view seamlessly transitions from third-person handheld to a fixed position on Hemsworth and back again. As if it wasn’t badass enough, Hemsworth goes beast mode and starts fighting off opposers while on fire.
Extraction 2 is due to premiere on Netflix on June 16.
