David Ayer released the first promotional photo of Jared Leto's Joker last Friday in celebration of the character's 75th anniversary. Sporting self-aware tattoos and a grill that seemed anything but funny, the image induced shock, awe and a load of new comedic memes. We've now had the weekend to digest Warner Bros. new vision of the Clown Prince of Crime, but for those of you having trouble accepting this new look, you may not have to.
Here's the rundown on The Joker's final look:
According to our source, the Joker image everybody is talking about isn't a genuine image and doesn't match up with how he looks on set. He's missing scars (which we reported on a while back as mementos from his history with Batman) and the grill/teeth are a kind of WTF addition to the image. Our source elaborates that he's scarred on his back and arms and his skin is definitely whiter than what we see below. The tattoos are brand new if even real, and may have been added to cover up the areas where his scars will be.
The picture that has everyone up in arms:
Furthermore, your first look Leto's Joker on film may be sooner than you think. Ben Affleck has lately been spotted in Toronto, coincidentally where the filming of SUICIDE SQUAD is taking place. That's led many to believe that Bruce Wayne may be making a cameo in SUICIDE SQUAD, but the following rumor is a little more unexpected. It doesn't come from a source of our own, but Latino Review is reporting that the Joker will show up briefly in a flashback sequence during BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, where we'll witness Joker beating and killing Jason Todd (aka Robin). DAWN OF JUSTICE is setting up a much different and darker world for Bruce Wayne than we're used to, and while we've reported on some of those changes, this would obviously give Affleck's Batman even more issues of responsibility than he's used to having, possibly prompting him to make sure this Superman figure won't act out of line.
We'll of course keep you up to date on anything that's confirmed, but it looks like non-fans of the infamous Joker pic can rest easy for now. In the meantime, Jared Leto has updated his Instagram with a picture of his SUICIDE SQUAD physique, showing off a symbol we generally don't associate with the character.
BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE hits on March 25, 2016 while we can expect SUICIDE SQUAD to be released on August 5, 2016.
