Exclusive: We interview Giancarlo Esposito & more for The Scorch Trials

The scope of MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS is about ten times broader than THE MAZE RUNNER and succeeds in making the first film look like a prologue to the bigger story. The main cast members are back, picking up where their story left off, and a slew of new characters join the fray.

I spoke with veteran maze runners Ki Hong Lee, Dexter Darden, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster about returning for round two. The boys talked about the physical demands of the film, the expansiveness of the sequel, and exploring unfamiliar territory.

I also talked with new cast members Rosa Salazar and Giancarlo Esposito (of Breaking Bad and DO THE RIGHT THING fame). After some playful apple polishing, we discuss bringing passion to the project after years in the business, which role Giancarlo originally wanted to play, and Rosa’s experience filming a particularly terrifying scene. These two are complete maniacs, and I had a blast spending time with them.
