After our news this morning, it looks like Ryan Reynolds has something to say about that pesky PG-13 rating…Enjoy the Chimichangas below!
Yes, that's right. No April Fools. No Bullshit. DEADPOOL is rated R. Now, let's get a taco.
Original "story" below:
Well, it’s official; DEADPOOL has succumbed to a PG-13 rating. A source at Fox has confirmed to us that the Ryan Reynolds led X-Men spinoff flick will indeed carry that all-encompassing PG-13, despite the outcry for a more hardcore R-rated take on the Merc with a Mouth. Surely, this news will rile up a lot of fans that were hoping for a more foul-mouthed escapade, complete with the blood, guts, and potential nudity, but I think there’s still hope in a PG-13, albeit somewhat more dim than with an R.
Reynolds has made it clear that he was fighting for an R all along, but it appears he has lost that battle. DEADPOOL creator Rob Liefeld has stated in the past that the script for the film, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, is “R-rated” but it would seem that some of that will have to be toned down to fit it’s new four-character rating. While I’m somewhat disappointed with this news, it’s not the end of the world. DEADPOOL is a great character and the comics certainly don’t bear an “R” or “Mature” rating (although they often push the envelope towards it), so I think there’s some wiggle room. Still, imagine the possibilities if that sucker took an R, am I right? It would be the first X-film to do so and show some enormous faith in the material, not to mention the effort put forward to sell it that way thus far. Sigh.
