NOTE: This story was initially posted on 03/30/2010 – we’re bumping it up for yall.
My partner in crime Ammon and I spoke with the legendary Lloyd Kaufman yesterday, an interview that will air next week on our podcast. While the whole thing is certainly worth a listen (isn’t it always?), one part in particular caught both of us by surprise. Kaufman revealed to us that there’s some real interest in remaking some of Troma’s more notorious flicks.
Here’s just a piece of the info Lloyd spilled: “Right now there’s some people who want to remake Poultrygeist, so I’m sort of negotiating with them right now. There’s been sort of a new interest because the Toxic Avenger is being remade and Mother’s Day is being remade, now a lot of these big time producers are coming to us. And even The Class of Nuke ‘Em High, and of course, Poultrygeist…”
Yes, you read that right. Someone wants to remake POULTRYGEIST. The man wasn’t kidding, either.
Kaufman said that the deal is done for THE TOXIC AVENGER, while the others, like NUKE ‘EM HIGH, are just being discussed. He also told us that he’s in the process of writing THE TOXIC AVENGER V: THE TOXIC TWINS as well as a follow-up to TERROR FIRMER, which is evidently a more personal project for him. That one is likely to come before TOXIE V, so it looks as though that flick is still a long while off.
Keep your ears peeled for more; the full interview will go up on APRIL 7th.
