Exclusive: Some funny banter in this clip from End of Watch shows the lighter side of the film

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

David Ayer’s END OF WATCH is opening today and we have an exclusive clip to share, which shows the lighter side of the otherwise intense pic.  Partners Brian (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Mike (Michael Pena) are busy filling out reports on some evidence collected from an arrest, when visited by their superior officer.  Gyllenhaal’s commentary about the encounter causes more than a little concern for his partner…

END OF WATCH is sitting pretty on Rotten Tomatoes right now (clocking in at 86%) and our man Jimmy O gave it 8/10 in his review, which is a pretty damn good indicator that the film has got it going on.  I’m a big fan of Ayer’s work and look forward to catching this.  His gritty, street-level style and dialogue is a big draw for me and he’s never one to shy away from character relationships and dynamics (lest we forget, he is also the writer of TRAINING DAY).

In an interview with Reuters, Ayer’s said, You focus on character. The whole movie lives or dies on the relationship between Jake and Mike’s characters. That’s where I put all the primary work – getting the actors to become best friends, to play that chemistry, to play that history, so they could take us so deep inside their relationship that we hang on their every word.”

END OF WATCH, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, Anna Kendrick, Natalie Marinez, Frank Grillo, American Ferrera, and Cody Horn is now playing in theaters.
