If I had a dollar for every time I've uttered the words "Hey, that's not the way that scene looked in the trailer," I'd likely be a modestly wealthy individual. The fact of the matter is that movie's change a whole lot from the time of their inception all the way up to when the finished product is unveiled in cinemas. It's also true that green screen technology has advanced exponentially, giving filmmakers the power to manipulate footage with relative ease. With all of this in mind, it's no wonder that sometimes the final cut of a film can include scenes that are unrecognizable from what we'd previously been shown.
Today, Luke Ryan, one of our editors and administrator of the JoBlo Superhero Videos YouTube channel, offers us a look at some of the radical changes made to Marvel's THOR: RAGNAROK. By now, you've all witnessed the scene in the early trailers where Hela shatters Mjolnir, Thor's hammer, using her bare hands. In that instance, the footage took place in an alley way locale. Then, just yesterday, a clip was released that featured this same scene but in a different setting all together. Again, it's incredible what some special effects can do to change what we already think we know about a film.

In reagrd as to why the scene had been changed, director Taika Watitti told DigitalSpy that "Here's the thing, alley ways aren't cool," Waititi joked. "Fields are cool. Ask anyone." Comedy aside, Waititti followed up his previous comment by saying "We originally shot some of that stuff on the set of our stuff in New York. What we wanted to do was have them go down to Earth and they see Doctor Strange and stuff but it felt too convenient that he was suddenly just down the road in an alley and also everything, up to then, everything was so fast-paced and all over the place. We wanted to go somewhere peaceful and actually chill out with those characters and be with Odin while he imparts this wisdom and stuff and not have to hear stupid yellow cabs honking out the back."
"It just felt like a terrible environment to have a scene that could be very emotional for what happens with Odin and the boys, and the first time we've seen the three guys all together, and him telling them he loves them and acknowledging Loki as his son," Waititi said. "It was just very important for us to be in a beautiful peaceful environment."
THOR: RAGNAROK starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Karl Urban, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and more will strike theaters come November 3rd.
