Exclusive: Outlaw King featurette explores the making of the grand epic

A little over a month ago the historical epic OUTLAW KING starring Chris Pine and directed by David Mackenzie finally hit Netflix in all its bloody, dirty, action-packed glory. The tale shined a light on Robert the Bruce in a way never captured on film before, and now with this new exclusive featurette you can go behind the scenes and learn about the production. The video delves into how the cast and crew brought medieval Scotland to life, capturing the grandeur, mystery and beauty of the landscape, making it just as much a character in the movie as the Bruce himself.

Featuring interviews from Pine, Mackenzie, Florence Pugh and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, they each talk about what makes the story unique, from it’s David and Goliath approach to the story, the love angle, and the action and locations. All of it was made with the intention to make what Mackenzie calls an “anti-fantasy film, with as much reality as possible.”

"The story of Robert the Bruce is a story that has not really properly been told before,” Mackenzie said. “It’s a great story of somebody who loses everything and drags himself back into a position where they can make a difference.”

Our own Chris Bumbray got to see the movie several months early when it premiered at TIFF (and before the runtime was shortened) and gave it a glowing review. Then Paul Shirey got a chance to go across the pond to Scotland and interview the cast and crew, which you can check out here.

OUTLAW KING can be seen on Netflix now!
