With the much-celebrated "holiday" of 4/20 nearly here, we have something to get you in the mood to "celebrate" and it comes in the form of a NSFW clip from the pot-slinging drama KID CANNABIS, which is based on the true story of Nate Norman (played by Jonathan Daniel Brown), an Idaho teen dropout who becomes a drug lord by smuggling marijuana from Canada to the U.S. The film is based on the Rolling Stone article by Mark Binelli, which chronicles the rise and fall of Nate and his crew who lived a life of excess before it all crumbled around their ears. In the clip, we see one of Nate's adversaries interrupt a pool party (and a threesome for Nate), which prompts a clumsy shootout that you'd very well expect under the circumstances.

Here's the synopsis:
KID CANNABIS is the true story of Nate Norman (Jonathan Daniel Brown, PROJECT X), an Idaho teen dropout who builds a multimillion-dollar marijuana ring by partnering with his best friend (Kenny Wormald, FOOTLOOSE) and their pals to run drugs across the Canadian border. Bankrolled by a deadly-serious dope czar (Ron Perlman, SONS OF ANARCHY) and supplied by an ex-government grower (John C. McGinley, SCRUBS), Nate's pursuit of the high life – complete with girls, guns, and vicious rival dealers – may leave this ex-pizza boy in way over his head.
I almost always enjoy a good rise-and-fall drug kingpin story and this one looks like a fun, quirky tale, which is heightened by the fact that it's based on true events. The original article that chronicles this story is pretty damn fascinating and you can immediately spot the allure to adapt it into a feature. Director John Stockwell (Cougar!) is at the helm and he's made some pretty fun B-level flick in his time (ROCK STAR, INTO THE BLUE, BLUE CRUSH, TURISTAS) and this looks to fit nicely into his repertoire. Happy (early) 4/20, kids!
KID CANNABIS opens in limited theaters and iTunes today, April 18, 2014.
