In the psychological thriller SHUT IN, Naomi Watts plays a child psychologist who is still grieving the car accident that killed her husband and paralyzed her step-son (Stranger Things' Charlie Heaton). Living with the latter in an isolated New England house, Watts' character begins to experience unsettling phenomena that may or may not have something to do with a former patient (ROOM's Jacob Tremblay) who has gone missing. Or perhaps she's just losing her mind?
Watts is no stranger to the thriller genre, having appeared in films like THE RING, MULHOLLAND DRIVE, KING KONG and many others (read our recent article celebrating her genre career HERE). I've been a longtime fan of hers because of these efforts, so it was a pleasure to talk to her about the trials and tribulations her character goes through in SHUT IN. Take a look:
Farren Blackburn is a name that fans of binge-worthy TV shows may be familiar with, having helmed episodes of Daredevil, Luther, Doctor Who and The Fades. SHUT IN may be his highest profile feature to date. Meanwhile, fans of this past summer's most binge-worthy show, Stranger Things, will certainly recognize Charlie Heaton, who plays the tragically paralyzed step-son of Watts' character. As SHUT IN is a tough movie to speak about without spoiling, the three of us do our best to discuss the mysteries of the film while not giving away too much.
