Did you know monsters have feelings too? Creatures of the night like Frankenstein’s monster, wolfmen, mummies and everything in between are just as in need of mental help as the rest of us, and Ken W. Hanley’s upcoming book The I in Evil: Accepting and Embracing the Monster You Are endeavors to get these toothy headcases on the right path.
The self-help satire, which comes out in early October, provides the necessary methods to help Frankenstein’s Monster get over his daddy issues, vampires to be more conscientious to their neighbors, Gill-men make better first impressions and more. Today we’re bringing to you two exclusive illustrations from the book by artist Adam Wallenta.
In the first illustration, you’ll see the Gill-Man cutting a rug with a lucky lady (lucky if she survives the night, that is). Hanley says: “In our chapter about the Gill-man (entitled Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Gill-Man) I focused on helping that monster out with making good first impressions with a human female counterpart, something the on-screen Gill-man has a bit of trouble with. So for Adam’s particular illustration here, we show a Gill-man at his finest, dancing and romancing with a significant other as a result of my advice.”
In the second image, a mad scientist handles a weird newborn baby. Hanley states: “The second picture represents our chapter on Mad Scientists and perhaps their failings as parents. Obviously, even though they can cross dimensions and raise the dead, they’re terrible at being responsible caregivers, and so Adam decided to show a mad scientist and their common reaction to dealing with a monster baby.”
Sweet and noble! Here’s the book’s official synopsis, in case you still haven’t gotten the point:
