The last we heard of HBO's WESTWORLD, production on the series had been shut down. A brief hiatus was called for, so that executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy could catch up on the show's writing and get the scripts for the first season's last four episodes where they needed to be. That led many to question when we'd be seeing WESTWORLD, and if HBO was still going to be able to bring the series to their airwaves in 2016 as a result of these delays.
According to my sources, HBO has a plan in place to premiere WESTWORLD on the cable network this summer, specifically with an eye on June to launch the show. While no specific date has been set, HBO's strategy is to start up WESTWORLD as Season Six of GAME OF THRONES is winding down. HBO hopes that, by overlapping the shows, GAME OF THRONES would provide a valuable lead-in to their new programming and give WESTWORLD a kickstart with the shows' shared demographics as opposed to launching it cold turkey on its own without the assistance of one of their most popular assets.
I've also heard that many over at HBO are really high on WESTWORLD from what they've seen thus far, with the general sense being that "they love" what they have on their hands and a confidence that viewers will feel the same way over the summer. June suddenly feels so far away.
