It's been years now since director Pete Travis's take on Judge Dredd – called, you know, DREDD – hit the big screen starring Karl Urban as the titular judge, jury, and executioner. Since then we've heard rumors of a DREDD 2 and a possible TV series in the form of JUDGE DREDD: MEGA-CITY ONE. But it's been a while since we've heard anything new and talks have seemingly died on all fronts. Until today that is.
Today we have word via Dredd himself Karl Urban that all future Dredd projects may be dead in the water. Our very own Eric Walkuski had the chance to sit down and chat with Urban recently about the planned Dredd TV series and the planned sequel, and here's what the actor had to say:
I really don't know much. I had a couple of preliminary meetings… gotta be a couple of years ago now, so it's a long-gestating project. I've gone on record saying if I had the opportunity to get back in that world and explore more stories I'd be down for it. It's crazy, it's been a few years since that movie came out and one of the most commonly asked questions I get is, when is Dredd 2?
Again it's been some time since we've heard anything on the DREDD front. Last July was actually the last time we've reported on anything Judge Dredd, and back then the powers that be behind the scenes of the TV series said they were all set to begin pre-production… but that never happened.
So is Judge Dredd dead for now? He just might be.
But you can be sure that we will keep up to date on all things DREDD 2 and MEGA-CITY ONE and make sure to pass along further news as we hear it. Until then, make sure to hit us up and let us know how much YOU want to see the further adventures of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd below!
