Ever since Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) himself confirmed that Cable would be appearing in the sequel, we've been wondering just who they would find to fill the character's shoes. Plenty of names have been brought up over the past year, but it was the latest name which got me rather excited. Last week it was rumoured that Michael Shannon was the frontrunner for the role of Cable, and we were able to catch up with David Leitch at CinemaCon to ask him what he thought of Shannon potentially taking on the role.
You know, I think, Michael Shannon, that name speaks for itself, he’s an incredible actor and he can accomplish anything. Yeah, I’m passionate about him as an actor and, look, he would make an incredible Cable. If that happens, I would be through the roof that I get to work with another incredible actor. I can’t say that it’s going to happen, because we’re looking – the list is what the list is. But, yeah, I have nothing but great things to say about him and I’m a huge, huge fan.
Leitch obviously couldn't say one way or another whether Michael Shannon will be the one to walk away with the role, but DEADPOOL screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick recently said that a casting announcement would be coming "very soon." Keep an eye out for our full interview with David Leitch a little later and make sure to check out the rest of our ongoing CinemaCon 2017 coverage! Plenty of goodies yet to come!
Rumours of who would be playing Cable seem to pop up every other week, with actors like David Harbour (Stranger Lines) and Kyle Chandler (Bloodlines) reportedly up for the role at certain points, but I've got my fingers crossed (and just about every other body part) that Michael Shannon will be our man. DEADPOOL 2 is set for a 2018 release.
Who are you hoping will play Cable in the DEADPOOL sequel?
