Greg Nicotero is not only responsible for some so the best creature effects out there, but helped create one of the biggest shows of our lifetime: THE WALKING DEAD. I grew up on Greg's films; whether it be FROM DUSK TILL DAWN or the masterpiece that is DAY OF THE DEAD, he has always been at the forefront of practical creature effects.
Inspired by his mentor George A Romero, Greg put together a CREEPSHOW TV series for Shudder last year (WATCH IT HERE). With the help of a great cast (Tobin Bell, Adrienne Barbeau, Jeffrey Combs) and some terrific writers (Stephen King, David J. Schow, Joe Hill), CREEPSHOW ended up being the most streamed show on Shudder having more minutes streamed in its opening weekend (September 26-29) than any title in the service’s history,
My only complaint is that I wanted more. Six episodes weren't enough to quench my horror anthology thirst and was hoping that its second season would get an episode boost. Arrow In The Head was able to talk with Greg Nicotero about Creepshow (full interview coming soon) and learn a little bit about season two's episode length and why it was chosen.
We read a lot of stuff for season two because, of course, we had an inordinate amount of submission from everybody that had seen season one, and was like, 'Oh my God, I love this, I want to be apart of this.' I was hoping that for season two, we would have gotten a bigger pickup, maybe eight or ten episodes. But you know, Shudder is still new to the game in terms of the amount of money they can to put towards multiple shows. So I was hoping that we would have gotten more, but honestly, trying to fit CREEP SHOW into the hiatus of THE WALKING DEAD, six episodes does fit well before I have to go back to my other job.
Greg was also able to talk about a bit about the original and adapted stories for season two.
There are probably four or five stories that have been published and a bunch more, maybe seven, that were pitches…. It was really people submitting stories, rather than having stories that have been previously published. My goal was to make sure that we had enough variety that every time you watch an episode, you are getting a different meal. One would be pizza, and one would be Chinese, and then one would be Bob's Big Boy. I wanted there to be a different experience for every single story, and that was the goal.
There is no release date yet for season two, but CREEPSHOW season one is scheduled to air MAY 9th on AMC.
