Tomorrow is September 11th. On the fourteenth anniversary of the tragic attacks on the World Trade Center, Americans and others around the globe will reflect on the innocent lives lost that fateful day. But, seeing as this is a movie site, it felt prudent to compile a list of the most stirring and memorable real life heroes who have been immortalized on the big screen. The key for compiling this list is that all of the characters are historical figures and not fictional. While some of the films may have told fictionalized stories about these characters, their place in history is without argument. Each of these individuals changed the world for the better and many sacrificed their lives to do so. For that, we thank them and reflect on their achievements.
What makes a hero is going to differ depending on who compiles the list, but if there is a miss on here that you feel we should be aware of, don’t stay quiet. If your favorite didn’t make the cut, feel free to let us know in the strikebacks below.
