The latest installment of Movie CliffsNotes takes us back to one of the most notable films of the '80's: THE KARATE KID, starring Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elizabeth Shue, and William Zabka. Growing up, this was a film that was in regular rotation for me, right next to THE GOONIES, PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE, THE DARK CRYSTAL, and ROBOCOP (yes, my parents were shitty at monitoring ratings). THE KARATE KID inspired a smorgasbord of pop culture references, from Cobra Kai's, headbands, bonsai trees, skeleton costumes, outrageous finishing karate moves, the best montage "arouuund" and a ton of sayings, from "sweep the leg" to "wax on, wax off" to "you beginner luck" and so many more. It's also to blame for the uptick in McDojo's across the country after its release.
