DEATH OF A SUPERHERO takes a very serious topic and combines it with the conventions of a comic book. The world of comics is already very well versed in tales of life and death, but when that infringes on the real world, it becomes less magical.
Ian FitzGibbons’ movie looks like the perfect mix of the real world and the fantasy landscape one would enter if they were faced with their own worst reality. JoBlo.com is proud to present an exclusive clip from this heartfelt new movie.
In this clip, Donald (Thomas Brodie-Sangster, LOVE ACTUALLY), facing more than the usual problems of being a teenage boy, finds solace in drawing comic book characters of a superhero world he’s created. One night to blow off steam, Donald makes a very interesting addition to his school’s cafeteria window.
Plot: Donald is a teenager with extraordinary artistic talents. His future as a graphic novel artist should be bright. As his life is consumed by fantastic daydreams, Donald soon discovers that a very real enemy is trying to kill him. With an unorthodox psychologist teaching Donald to find the light in life in an otherwise dark world, DEATH OF A SUPERHERO tells the story of discovering life, love, and death in this exceptionally honest portrayal of a teenage boy facing his own mortality.
Isn’t Andy Serkis reason enough to check out this film? The combination of animation with live action is always a dangerous idea, but this movie looks to use it in a way that only helps us better understand the devastating fate that Donald finds himself in.
DEATH OF A SUPERHERO will premiere at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, can be seen on VOD starting April 17th and will have a limited release to follow.
