Today we have an exclusive clip from THE SWEENEY (see our review here), starring gravelly-voiced bad ass Ray Winstone, Damian Lewis (Homeland), Hayley Atwell (CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER), and Ben Drew. Based on the popular 1970s British crime show, the film is a hard-boiled cop drama that seems to fit someone of Winstone’s capabilities quite well. Winstone has got the look of a man you simply don’t f*ck with. His voice alone could stop traffic and he seems well-suited to lead an adaptation like this, playing the tough guy who doesn’t play by the rules or let anything stand in his way. That may be a cliche, but when it’s Ray Winstone, it’s still a powerful one.
In the clip, Winstone has a few choice words with one of his adversaries, which turns into a choke hold that would make Darth Vader proud. However, the coolest thing is Winstone giving JoBlo.com a personal shout out. Thanks, Ray!

Here’s the synopsis:
Jack Reagan is a slobbish, old style cop whose unsubtle methods usually get results, to the annoyance of internal affairs officer Lewis, who would be even more annoyed if he knew that Reagan was having an affair with his young wife, policewoman Nancy. After Reagan disobeys orders and a shoot-out in central London following a bank hold-up ends in carnage he is stripped of office and briefly imprisoned. However, thanks to the loyalty of his young protege George Carter and a little string pulling from his superior, Frank Haskins Reagan, is released to bring down the villains in a gun battle at Gravesend marina, ensuring the continued existence of his department – the Sweeney.
I loved Winstone in BEOWULF and THE DEPARTED, so it’s great to see him still out and about kicking the shit out of bad guys onscreen. His voice and presence are always welcome.
THE SWEENEY hits theaters and VOD today, March 1, 2013. Winstone will next be seen in Darren Arronofsky’s NOAH on March 28, 2014.
Also, Hayley Atwell…just…Hayley Atwell…
