Exclusive: Bachelorette clip, featuring Lizzy Caplan and Adam Scott, shows up as part of the film’s WWW tour

Produced by Adam McKay (ANCHORMAN) and written/directed by Leslye Headland, BACHELORETTE is a raunchy, sexy, and rioutous film that will undoubtedly draw comparisons to the mega-successful BRIDESMAIDS.  Having seen both films, I can say that they are both distinctly different, yet hilariously similar.  Based on Headland’s play of the same name, the film stars Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, and Isla Fisher as three friends who reunite for the wedding of their high school “bestie,” played by Rebel Wilson, where things take a turn for the worst. The pic takes a more realistic turn in its comedy, creating situations that are much more relatable and believable than the aforementioned BRIDESMAIDS, making it a “funny ’cause it’s true” kind of comedy. 

Co-starring the always awesome James Marsden, Adam Scott, Kyle Bornheimer, and Anne Dowd, BACHELORETTE tracks the three main stars (Dunst, Caplan, and Fisher) as they try to fix the bride’s botched dress, encountering a number of obstacles along the way, including past loves, a “magic mike” moment, the groomsmen, a strip club, and plenty of drugs and alcohol.  Our exclusive clip from the film features a frantic cab ride with former PARTY DOWN co-stars Lizzy Caplan and Adam Scott as they negotiate their feelings for one another, while offering a unique bribe for a speedy ride to their destination.

That’s a small sample of the goods, but a solid indicator of what the fllm has in store.  What I really dug about BACHELORETTE overall was that the events didn’t feel forced and things simply “happened” as they do in real life, leaving out the neat, picture perfect bow to tie it all together.  The pic has got something else going for it as well, which is that within 48 hours of its digital premiere, it hit number one on the iTunes VOD chart – the first time a film has hit that mark before screening in theaters.  

With VOD, ultra releases (pre-theatrical) and day-and-date releases (simultaneous) have become increasingly popular, with audiences looking for more options when renting from home, particularly in quality and star power.  It can be a win-win for studios if the movie catches fire, allowing word-of-mouth to cushion the theatrical release, which BACHELORETTE is hoping to do.  It’s certainly got my vote, especially being a genuinely funny flick with the equally hot and hilarious main stars putting forth some of their best work to date.
