The upcoming stoner action-comedy AMERICAN ULTRA starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart certainly rolled out an interesting publicity campaign during San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend. Lionsgate teamed up with Real Care Inc., a certified medical cannabis co-op and delivery service based in Southern California, to spread the word about AMERICAN ULTRA.
You may have seen several of the thousands of custom “Apollo Ape” fliers which were handed out to convention attendees and designed to resemble a comic book cover based on the fictitious astronaut gorilla (I’d watch that film) drawn by Jesse Eisenberg’s AMERICAN ULTRA character. The flier contained a message which directed Comic-Con attendees to www.TheAmericanUltraProgram.net, a GPS-enabled custom website, geo-restricted to the downtown San Diego Gaslamp area where medical cannabis card-holders were able to order a free gram of an all-new strain of marijuana dubbed “American Ultra.”
After going through a few identification requirements, a “cannabis care package” containing AMERICAN ULTRA branded promo items (small jar, rolling papers, lighter) was then dispatched by Real Care Inc. and delivered right into their customer's waiting arms via bicycle messengers. Now that’s service.
If that wasn’t enough, the “Apollo Ape” flier and rolling papers contained an augmented reality marker which could then be scanned by Comic-Con attendees using the Blippar app in order to view an exclusive clip from the film. If you weren’t present at SDCC never fear, we’re proud to offer that same exclusive clip for everyone to see!
The American Ultra Program hasn't stopped with Comic-Con, Real Care Inc. will be keeping the "American Ultra" strain on their menu for the foreseeable future as well as continuing to offer several hundred “cannabis care packages” to customers/patients between now and AMERICAN ULTRA’s opening weekend on August 21, 2015.
