Our own Jenna Busch got a chance to sit down and talk last night with KNOWING director Alex Proyas. While we’ll bring you that full interview closer to KNOWING’s March release date, he did talk about some upcoming projects and I thought I’d share that with you now.
First, and perhaps most obvious, we had to ask what Proyas thought about the recent announcement that his classic film, THE CROW, was getting remade.
“I think it’s kind of premature, really,” says Proyas. “It’s seems like THE CROW is only like 15 years old maybe. It’s seems, early. (laughs) I always thought that remakes, you shouldn’t be given license to remake something for at least 25 years. I don’t know. It just seems kind of odd to me. Just re-release the original movie.”
Amen brother!! As for projects Proyas himself is working on, he’s got two projects in the works: DRACULA: YEAR ZERO and THE UNPLEASANT PROFESSION OF JOHNATHAN HOAG. He describes his DRACULA film as a “prequel of BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA…that’s essentially a medieval epic.” Proyas is quick to mention this won’t be like other Dracula movies you’ve seen. “It’s really about the birth of the legend. So it’s set in 13th century Transylvania. It’s quite different to the movies that have been made and the Bram Stoker story.”
As far as casting, Proyas promises it will be “unexpected.” He wouldn’t give up any names but said “it may be someone a little younger than we’ve seen.” He didn’t want to say too much more about that because it was a little to early in the production to give away his casting choices.
Finally he says HOAG is something he’s really excited about but that he was “just starting” his first draft of the script and that “it’s probably a little way away yet.”
We’ll have much more from Proyas as KNOWING gets closer so stay tuned to JoBlo.com for much more!
