BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC was scheduled to hit screens wide on August 21, 2020, but due to the postponement of other films due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was moved up to August 14, 2020, to fill vacated slots. The film moved again to August 28, 2020, as to avoid conflicting with the rescheduled release of TENET but further complications from the pandemic continued to threaten movie theater openings so it was ultimately decided to release the film on September 1, 2020, in select theaters that were expected to be open and on-demand. The new release date of August 28 puts it back into the third release date it occupied before shifting to September 1.
The third most excellent adventure of the franchise will have Winter and Keanu Reeves reprising their beloved roles and they will be joined by their daughters, played by Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine. Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. The film also stars Scott Mescudi, Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Jillian Bell, Holland Taylor, Beck Bennett, William Sadler, Hal Landon Jr., and Amy Stoch,
