There are certain movies that are just meant to be fun. They play with the audience, and hopefully those in attendance respond back. THE INTRUDER is one of those flicks. Directed by Deon Taylor with a script by David Loughery, the film follows a few horror troupes – plus a little homages to classic horror films – and they let Dennis Quaid get seriously crazy. It features Meagan Good and Michael Ealy as a couple who buy a house from an older widower. However, once they move in, Mr. Quaid’s “Charlie Peck” appears to have no intention of actually leaving them alone. It’s an over-the-top thriller that offers a fun finale with Dennis getting to relish playing a really bad dude.
We sat down with both Meagan Good and Michael Ealy as well as the film’s director, Deon Taylor. It’s rare to find a director as wonderfully expressive as Mr. Taylor. The second you walk in the room he charms the hell out of you. During our discussion I asked him about a couple of obvious inspirations. We talked about a few classic genre flicks, with emphasis on THE SHINING. The filmmaker also spoke about bringing Quaid on as a villain, and just how easily the actor stepped into the role. He’s a lot of fun to watch here. And as for Deon, it was impossible to not love talking to him as he is such a genuinely cool dude.
Years back I had interviewed the very talented Michael Ealy, and it was a nice reunion. He and Meagan Good made for a perfect pairing for a chat. After speaking to Deon and noticing the incredible energy he had during an interview, I wondered if that’s how he is during a film production. I wasn’t surprised by their answer. The two also discussed finding their chemistry as a married couple. While they’ve worked together before in films, this was the first time they really got to really work with each other. The two are wonderfully kind to speak with, and are pretty damn solid talents. All three of these folks were just amazing.
THE INTRUDER opens up this weekend at a theatre near you.
