Ex Machina’s Sonoya Mizuno to star in Jon M. Chu’s Crazy Rich Asians

It's official! EX MACHINA and LA LA LAND's Japan-born ballerina-turned-actress Sonoya Mizuno is joining the cast of Warner Bros.' CRAZY RICH ASIANS. Directing the adaptation of Kevin Kwan's New York Times best-selling-novel of the same name will be Jon M. Chu, whose all-Asian cast features Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh, and Gemma Chan.

If you have yet to hear of the plot relating to CRAZY RICH ASIANS, the story centers on Rachel Chu (Wu), an America-born Chinese economics professor, who travels to her history professor boyfriend Nick's (Golding) hometown of Singapore for his best friend's wedding. What Rachel soon finds out is that Nick comes from an incredibly wealthy family and is the most eligible bachelor in Asia, meaning every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social circle now wants to bring Rachel down.

Mizuno is set to play Araminta, the soon-to-be married fiancé of Nick's best friend, Colin, who just so happens to be a major fashion icon in Singapore. Color Force's Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, in addition to Ivanhoe President John Penotti, are producing. Kevin Kwan will act as the film's executive producer alongside Ivanhoe chairman Robert Friedland. Courtenay Valenti and Jon Gonda will shepherd the project for Warner Bros.

As of the moment there is no release date set for CRAZY RICH ASIANS. Personally, I'm excited about the fact that this film features an all-Asian cast, and the inclusion of Sonoya Mizuno only serves to pique my enthusiasm for the film even more. For now, we'll have to wait for more details about this forthcoming adaptation, but that leaves us with more than enough time to watch EX MACHINA, again, which is available on Digital, Blu-Ray and DVD right now.
