Summer always tends to bring audiences a few massive blockbusters in hopes to brings fans to the theatres. And frankly, you can’t get much bigger than GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS. Directed by Michael Dougherty of TRICK’R”TREAT and KRAMPUS fame, this juggernaut of a movie features a ton of monsters duking it out, but it also features a number of familiar faces. The impressive cast includes Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Ken Watanabe, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and so many more. This is a big film on pretty much every level, and you can read what our own editor-in-chief Paul Shirey thought about the new film here.
Recently, I sat down with some of the fine folk involved in this flick, but unfortunately GODZILLA himself was a bit busy. However, Kyle Chandler filled me in a bit on what the massive beast is up to, and it sounds like he’s doing great. On a serious note, Mr. Chandler also discussed the human element, and working with both Farmiga and Brown. And speaking of Millie Bobby Brown, what a pleasure it was talking to the actress. She discussed how her character plays such an integral part in the new film. As well, she talked about other iconic characters that have inspired her. Yet it sounds like her biggest inspiration is her mom, and frankly that was pretty wonderful to hear.
Next up we spoke to both O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Thomas Middleditch. Now, before I walked in to talk with the two fine gentlemen, I had overheard O’Shea tell a couple of “dad jokes,” so you bet that came up during the interview. As well, the two talked about working with Michael Dougherty, and what kind of influence that Godzilla had on each actor. Both were incredibly cool fellas, and I have to say that it was great to see Mr. Middleditch in a movie like this. After all, a little extra humor never hurts a blockbuster, and Thomas is an incredibly funny guy.
Finally, we sat down with both Ken Watanabe and Michael Dougherty. Ken discussed returning to this franchise and how his character has grown from the last feature. For Dougherty, the filmmaker opened up about taking on GODZILLA, and how he approached the new film. It was fantastic speaking with this great group of actors and of course, Mr. Dougherty. Are you ready to see a gargantuan GODZILLA take on a gang of beasties? Well, if so, you are in luck as GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS smashes into theatres this weekend!
