Exclusive! JoBlo joins Kevin Smith at Mooby’s Pop-Up in L.A!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I'll never forget the first time I witnessed the indie miracle CLERKS. Even today, it remains one of the most ridiculously enjoyable indie comedies ever made. It was also a perfect introduction to Kevin Smith. Any fan of his who has ever loved saying "Snoochie Boochies" with Jay and Silent Bob or has uttered the line "I'm not even supposed to be here today" is very aware of the amazing world he created with MALLRATS, CLERKS 2, CHASING AMY and so much more. Would you want to be a part of this world? Do you want to hang out where Dante Hicks, Randall Graves, and Jay and Silent Bob spent their time? Well, now you can with one of the coolest places to go in Los Angeles! I'm talking about "Mooby's" pop-up restaurant, a fictional fast-food joint first introduced in DOGMA come to life.

We at JoBlo.com recently had the opportunity to spend some quality time at the opening of the brand new pop-up Mooby's located at 7100 W Santa Monica Blvd., in West Hollywood. And it was a dream come true for this fan! The event took place on Wednesday, June 17th, with Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Rosario Dawson, David Dastmalchian, Ben Gleib, and much more joining in. It was an amazing night of fun and food with proper social distancing and limited attendance. The best part! If you are in Los Angeles over the next couple of months you can make reservations and be a part of this incredible experience yourself.

While there, we took a bit of time to chat with Mr. Smith. Per usual, Kevin enlightened and entertained discussing how Mooby's came to be, the recent JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT roadshow, and more. He even shared some camera time with Bob Gleib who discussed an inventive way to bring fans of stand-up a little enjoyment in this trying time. And just to give some insight into the brilliance of recreating Mooby's, Derek Berry joined in to expand on how it all came about. Derek is part of the brains behind similarly themed pop-up restaurants including Saved by the Max, Good Burger, The Peach Pit, and The Breaking Bad Experience. These fellas know how to create an unforgettable, movie, and food lover experience. And yes, the Cow Tipper burger is sensational. If you're a Kevin Smith fan, this is something you HAVE to do, even if you simply choose to stay safe and order curbside.

I'm thrilled to offer you our extended chat with Kevin Smith, and if you'd like to attend, make sure you check out the official site at https://www.moobyspopup.com/. Reservations are filling up fast, so grab your friends, order your tix, and check out Mooby's! If the cool factor isn't enough, you're also giving something back because they will be donating 100% of the proceeds from their first week plus all sales from the Mooby's Social Distancing merchandise shirt directly to Clean Up South Central. This is even better than owning a first print issue of "Bluntman and Chronic!"
