Ewan McGregor is all of us and pretends to use The Force in real life

Ewan McGregor is admitting to taking playing Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to pretty realistic heights, as the actor has revealed that he sometimes pretends to use The Force to open automatic doors. McGregor is officially all of us.

During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, he was asked if he has ever tried to change someone’s will with a Jedi mind trick. While he says he hasn’t tried that particular skill, he did jokingly admit to using The Force on automatic doors:

“I do it with doors. I like to do that with them automatic doors for my own amusement. I always do a little Jedi move for the doors. And I have occasionally been caught doing it. You know, at like the supermarket or something when I’m wheeling my trolly. It’s just always for my own… because it makes me laugh, but occasionally I’ve been caught doing that and that’s kind of embarrassing.”

When speaking on Jedi mind tricks, he said he has been accused of doing it by people trying to be funny but it’s a Jedi skill he doesn’t think he actually possesses:

“Have I ever tried to use a Jedi mind trick? Not really. I mean, I’ve been accused of doing it here and there by people who are trying to be funny. But no, I don’t think so. I’ve seen like tv hypnotists and stuff who do a sort of similar repeating things and they kind of… I’ve seen that on tv a bit where they actually get people to believe something that’s not true or something by the way they say things. But no, I don’t have those skills.”

I can fully admit that I’ve sometimes pretended to use The Force while opening automatic doors. This is something that transcends childhood. You can be a full-grown adult and still want to pretend you have Jedi powers. It’s nice to see that Ewan McGregor is also a part of that club.

You can see more of Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan when the Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, premieres on May 25, 2022, and have you ever pretended to use The Force to open doors?
