Ewan McGregor took home his first Golden Globe last night for his work on the series FARGO, having received nominations for movies MOULIN ROUGE! And SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN. We bestow all our congratulations upon McGregor and no one deserved it more than him – but seriously – what’s going on with that Obi-Wan Kenobi movie? It didn’t take long for the question to come up, with McGregor addressing the topic shortly after winning the gold.
During the usual speaking to reporters after his win, McGregor addressed his potential involvement in the spin-off Star Wars film about the iconic character. He apparently doesn’t know more than the rest of us do, but he did manage to see THE LAST JEDI recently:
There’s a lot of talk, and I’d be happy to play him again, but I don’t know anything more than you do. I saw the new one over Christmas and I thought it was really, really beautiful.
News about the spinoff has been quiet in the last few months, ever since it was confirmed the movie was in development with director Stephen Daldry at the helm. McGregor has made it clear he’s game for more movies as the Jedi master, saying in the past there’s a story to tell between where REVENGE OF THE SITH left off and where A NEW HOPE begins.
McGregor returning as Obi-Wan is something I dream about more than I care to mention, so I'm itching to see if he returns. There's really no reason not to have to have him return. He's at the perfect age for more stories, totally game, and the only choice fans will accept. With the movie confirmed some months ago, I don't believe McGregor is truly in the dark and is maybe keeping things on the hush-hush. That's just my paranoid nerd brain at work, but I do have a sixth sense for these kinds of things.
The next Star Wars spin-off movie, SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, hits theaters May 25.
