Evil Dead: The Game will be released sometime in February of 2022, and the closer we get to the game’s debut the cooler it sounds. One of the big selling points is the fact that Bruce Campbell provides the voice of Evil Dead franchise hero Ash Williams in the game, and during a recent interview with Geoff Keighley of The Game Awards and Tim Willits of Saber Interactive, it was revealed that there are multiple different versions of Ash that players will be able to choose from, ranging from Ash vs. Evil Dead era Ash to young Ash. Even the possessed Ash from Evil Dead II is in the mix! Willits revealed that each Ash falls into a different category, with the older Ash being the “Leader”. Other versions of Ash are in the “Warrior”, “Hunter”, and “Support” categories.
Which Ash would Campbell go with? He said (with thanks to Coming Soon for the transcription),
I would be the old guy. He’s got all the experience. The young guy doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground. But that’s the cool thing about the game. You can play other characters, you can play possessed Ash, so it really is whatever your mood is when you play.”
Campbell said he’s giving the game so much support because
It’s about the only form I can come back in. I hung up my jersey as Ash, hung up the chainsaw because I can’t physically do that crap anymore. I am like an old stunt guy. My voice is fine, though. My voice is what gives me away these days. I am at a restaurant. ‘Blah, blah blah,’ and some guy will go, ‘Hey, I heard your voice.’ They don’t recognize me, but they recognize my voice. So I figured let’s stay involved in this game. I love the Evil Dead movies, it got me into the film business, so game on.”
Evil Dead: The Game was announced as a co-op and PvP multiplayer game that will allow fans to
work together as a team of four survivors, exploring, looting, crafting, managing your fear, and finding key artifacts to seal the breach between worlds. Or take control of the powerful Kandarian Demon to hunt Ash and his friends while possessing Deadites, the environment, and even the survivors themselves as you seek to swallow their souls!
Plenty of surprises await in this gore-filled battle against evil that captures the characters, horror, humor, and action from the franchise. Battle across memorable locations including the infamous cabin in the woods, brought to life with tons of terrifying visuals and all-new dialogue from Bruce Campbell. Discover more than 25 weapons, including Ash’s Gauntlet, Boomstick, and chainsaw, and advance in a variety of skill trees to grow stronger and survive in this fun co-op and PvP experience.
It was recently revealed (and Willits confirmed in the interview) that there will be a single player option as well.
Ash is joined in the cast of the game by Ash’s sister Cheryl, Scott from the original The Evil Dead, Lord Arthur from Army of Darkness, Kelly from Ash vs. Evil Dead, Pablo from Ash vs. Evil Dead, a Kandarian demon, and Henrietta Knowby from Evil Dead II and Ash vs. Evil Dead.
Evil Dead: The Game will be available to play on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. The game is the result of a collaboration between Saber Interactive, Boss Team Games, Renaissance Pictures, STUDIOCANAL, MGM, and Lionsgate.
