Evil Dead Rise production is halfway through, says director Lee Cronin

New Line Cinema and producers Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert were able to give writer/director Lee Cronin a nice shooting schedule for Evil Dead Rise, the latest entry in the Evil Dead franchise. Cronin took to his Twitter account to celebrate the fact that July 13th marked the halfway point of the film's production – they've been filming for six weeks, and they have six more weeks to go.

Cronin also shared a picture of a blood-soaked corner of the set, in what looks to be a kid's room.

Evil Dead Rise stars Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan as

two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

They are joined in the cast by Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, and Nell Fisher, who are also playing "siblings in peril". They are all quite young, so chances are that their characters are the children of one of the sisters. And that kid's room shown in Cronin's picture probably belongs to one of them.

Romel Adam, John Keville, and Macdara Kelleher serve as executive producers on Evil Dead Rise. Filming is taking place in New Zealand, where the 2013 Evil Dead and the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series were also filmed.

Campbell retired from playing the role of franchise hero Ash on screen after the cancellation of Ash vs. Evil Dead, so he will not be making an appearance in this movie.

Although a release date has not yet been announced, we do know that the plan is for Evil Dead Rise to skip theatres and go straight to the HBO Max streaming service. Here's hoping we'll get a release date announcement around the time production wraps up in six weeks.
