Evil Dead Rise filming will take place in New Zealand, says Bruce Campbell

While the first three films in the Evil Dead franchise were filmed all over the United States – Tennessee, Michigan, North Carolina, California – the franchise moved to New Zealand for the production of the 2013 reboot, and stayed there for the Starz TV series Ash vs. Evil Dead. According to Bruce Campbell, New Zealand will remain the home of Evil Dead when the next film, Evil Dead Rise, starts rolling.

Campbell will not be starring in Evil Dead Rise, he has retired from playing the role of franchise hero Ash Williams, but he will still be involved as a producer, since he shares the rights to the franchise with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. Speaking with Knox News, Campbell said they're

planning to shoot the next Evil Dead movie in New Zealand later this year.

Campbell also reiterated that Evil Dead Rise will take the action "out of the woods" and into a "modern day urban setting". We don't know much about the project at this point, but we know it's being written and directed by The Hole in the Ground's Lee Cronin and is going to center on

a heroine, a woman in charge, and she's going to try and save her family."

The demonic shenanigans are said to take place in a high-rise building this time around. Cronin has promised his film will be "a rollercoaster of terror".
