Holy shit! After a bunch of rumors and false starts, it seems EVIL DEAD 4 is finally going to happen! And it's going to be directed by Lee Cronin, a director handpicked by Sam Raimi, who helmed last year's THE HOLE IN THE GROUND! This scoop comes from an interview with Ash Williams himself, Bruce Campbell, conducted in The Heroes Issue of Empire magazine. Here are the relevant excerpts from The Chin:
We’re just getting off the phone with Lee Cronin, who is writing and directing the next Evil Dead,” he confirmed when asked about a potential Evil Dead IV. “It’s called Evil Dead Now. Sam handpicked Lee – he did a cool movie called The Hole In The Ground. We’re going to get that sucker out as soon as practical.
Sadly, as cool as it would be to see Campbell get the chainsaw off the mantle and back on his hand, it seems that – like the 2013 remake – it won't feature Ash, and instead focus on another female protagonist:
From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own. Which is fine. And liberating…You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic…We jut want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.
Look, I liked the Fede Alvarez remake more than most, even if I feel it doesn't hold a candle to the Sam Raimi originals. So I think even watered down EVIL DEAD is better than most horror movies, meaning I'm willing to give this one a shot too.
Now obviously – as Campbell says – there's no official start or release date at the moment, but with film industry supposedly opening up soon, we might be finding that information out soon than later! We'll definitely keep you guys posted!
But what do you guys think? You down for another EVIL DEAD? Or do you think they should let that evil rest? Either way, sound off below!
