Evidently The Prodigy is so scary it had to be re-edited

It was only a few weeks back that we shared with you guys the poster and trailer for director Nicholas McCarthy's (THE PACT) new creepy-kid horror flick THE PRODIGY starring Taylor Schilling (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK) and Jackson Robert Scott (Georgie from director Andres Muschietti's take on Stephen King's IT). The flick looks pretty "scary" to us, but evidently, it had to be re-edited because it was TOO scary! Hurm… Sure thing.

Nicholas McCarthy told EW:

I’ll say this. The first time we previewed the movie, there is a section where people screamed so loud that we had to go back and re-edit the scene that followed it, because people were still recovering from what they had just seen, and they were missing the dialogue.

He then added:

Four years ago, I was sent a script for this movie. For the first half, I was thinking, ‘Wow, this is a really interesting, and creepy, and twisted variation on the evil kid subgenre.’ But then the script just went to this place that I couldn’t believe. That’s what made me go from, ‘Here’s a movie I think might be cool’ to, ‘Here’s a movie that’s gotta be made.'

Personally, you can go ahead and keep all that "it was so scary it had to be re-edited" talk to yourself, it makes no nevermind to me. But what intrigues me is McCarthy's comments about the film not only being "a really interesting, and creepy, and twisted variation on the evil kid subgenre" but his comments on the script going to a place he "couldn’t believe" is what grabs my interest.
