Everyone’s looking for a good shag in Netflix’s Sex Education trailer

Good grief. If I could go back and have a fireside chat with high school me, my tumultuous journey through those precious and exploratory years might've gone a lot smoother. I'd start by advising myself to not sweat the small stuff, and I would insist on the opinion that the people you think matter during that time … don't. After all, those cringeworthy years are just the tip of the social iceberg when it comes to making honest-to-goodness connections with others, and that the best and most meaningful relationships are yet to come.

Today, Netflix has released a trailer and key art for SEX EDUCATION, an upcoming comedic drama TV series that takes an honest look at the universally awkward coming-of-age experience. The film stars Asa Butterfield (HUGO, ENDER'S GAME) as Otis, a teenage boy being raised by his sex-therapist mother Jean played by Gillian Anderson. The eight-episode dramedy takes on conversations about sex, identity, love and the ups and downs of young adult life in a frank and truthful way and proves “Experience is Overrated!”

Here's the official synopsis for SEX EDUCATION:

Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) is an inexperienced, socially awkward high school student who lives with his mother, Jean (Gillian Anderson), a sex therapist.  Surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis is a reluctant expert on the subject. When his home life is revealed at school, Otis realizes that he can use his specialist knowledge to gain status. He teams up with Maeve (Emma Mackey), a whip-smart bad-girl, and his best friend Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and together they set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems. Through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realises he may need some therapy of his own.

Directed by Ben Taylor and Kate Herron, SEX EDUCATION was created and written by Laurie Nunn and executive produced by Jamie Campbell and Ben Taylor, and co-executive produced by Sian Robins-Grace. Hailing from the Eleven for Netflix studio, the film aims to place a comedic spin on the all-too-familiar hormone-driven high school experience, while also touching on some drama related to self-discovery, and how, in the end, we all need to make our own way in the world.

You can check out the new key art for SEX EDUCATION, which is set to launch globally on Netflix come January 11th.
