THE PURGE franchise continues to truck along as audiences can't seem to get enough of those 12 hours a year in which all crime is legal. The fifth installment of the series is gearing up and Variety has reported that Everardo Gout has signed on to helm the film for Blumhouse Productions, Platinum Dunes, and Universal Pictures.
Beyond the basic premise which has carried THE PURGE through four movies, there's not much to say about THE PURGE 5 at this point, but series creator James DeMonaco has previously teased that it could be the end of the series. "I have it in my head. I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all," DeMonaco said. "We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home." I'll believe it when I see it. DeMonaco, who has written every installment of the series, will naturally return to pen the screenplay for the fifth movie. As for Everardo Gout, he recently helmed a handful of episodes of National Geographic's Mars series as well as TBS' upcoming Snowpiercer series. Gout has also directed episodes of Netflix's Luke Cage and Starz's Banshee. In addition to the movie franchise, there's also a Purge TV series on USA Network which was renewed for a second season set to debut later this fall.
The fifth installment of THE PURGE franchise is already slated for a July 10, 2020 release.
