Evangeline Lilly Ant-Man and The Wasp

Although we never got to see exactly what Edgar Wright (BABY DRIVER) had planned for ANT-MAN, I still enjoyed the Marvel flick quite a lot and am greatly looking forward to its upcoming sequel, ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, and a large part of that enthusiasm comes from finally getting to see Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) take on a larger role as The Wasp. Production on the sequel is well underway and director Peyton Reed has said that Evangeline Lilly will definitely be more than a supporting player this time around, as ANT-MAN AND THE WASP will be "every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s." As today happens to be what would have been the late, great Jack Kirby's 100th birthday, Evangeline Lilly took to Twitter to share a photo of her costume from the upcoming sequel.

"I am honoured to be on set today playing #TheWasp on what would be Jack Kirby's 100th birthday."

We've seen glimpses of Evangeline Lilly's Wasp costume before, thanks to poster art, but this is our first time seeing Lilly wearing the costume herself. Now we just need a look at that helmet. Both Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are obviously back for ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, but they'll also be joined by Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michael Peña as Luis, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch, Randall Park as Jimmy Woo, Judy Greer as Maggie, and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost. As for what sort of story ANT-MAN AND THE WASP will tell, we're not sure, but the sequel will bring us plenty of fresh tech which will be able to do "new and stranger things." The suits worn by Scott Land (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) won't be all that much different from the ones which we've seen before, but they'll still represent an evolution of Hank Pym's (Michael Douglas) technology. Peyton Reed added:

For Ant-Man specifically, in that first movie, the suit, intentionally so, is kind of a relic. It represents his past, so this is really the new iteration that is the modern version of the tech. This is a whole new suit. It's fun, because it's very specific for the needs of the story. The suits are one thing on the comic page. They are fantastic. When you actually have to make it seem realistic in the real world, in three dimensions, you've got to buy it. It's got to be credible.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is set for a July 6, 2018 release.
