Actress Eva Green is in the middle of a lawsuit with company White Lantern Film over the production–and cancellation–of the movie A Patriot, with her WhatsApp messages recently under scrutiny.
In the WhatsApp messages, Eva Green made remarks about the production being “a fucking nightmare” and at one point having a “shitty peasant crew”, stemming from the movie’s budget being slashed. However, Eva Green is saying that her messages don’t necessarily translate to true feelings. After all, how many times have you texted “LOL” when you were in fact not laughing out loud? And come on, have you ever really rolled on the floor laughing?
When prompted if she consistently lied through messages, Eva Green said, “I have a very direct way of saying things. I was not expecting to have my messages exposed in court. It is already very humiliating.” She added, “Sometimes you say things you don’t mean. You hate a person and say: ‘I’m going to kill this person,’ are you going to kill this person? No. It’s a cry from the heart.”
Eva Green then cited her former Bond co-star Daniel Craig’s off-hand (no pun intended) statements he made when promoting the 2015 Bond movie Spectre in which he said he would rather slash his wrists than do another Bond movie. “But did he slash his wrists? No, he made another Bond movie and didn’t slash his wrists. Sometimes you say things because you are under extreme pressure. They just come out.” Green played Vesper Lynd in 2006’s Casino Royale.
In the lawsuit, Eva Green is alleging that White Lantern Film owes her more than $1 million through a “pay or play” stipulation in her contract. White Lantern, meanwhile, is claiming that Green breached her contract and repeatedly tried to sabotage the production. Green, however, maintains she did no such things, saying, “I am not crazy. I know well what would happen if I was in breach. My reputation would be destroyed and I would never work again.”
Eva Green’s latest movie, Nocebo, was released in November.
